Zeiss Victory FL 10 X 42 T*
The Zeiss Victory FL 10 X 42 T* binocular is a moderately sized and moderately heavy binocular offering (784g as actually weighed).
The FL models use fluorite to eliminate color errors, and indeed these were the free of color fringing, even with the eye slightly off-center.
Image quality is excellent under most conditions, which is to say far better than anything I had ever experienced before 2010. Under most conditions image quality is on par with my favorite Swarovski EL 10X42.
Overall image quality is excellent. These binoculars offer 16mm eye relief, and together with the moderate size, the viewing experience is pleasant.
Veiling flare
See my notes on the Zeiss Victory FL T* 8 X 32 binoculars. The same issue applies, which is a disappointment.
Any flare at all reduces the ability to see into dark areas, the major reason to seek out binoculars with 56mm objectives.
Brightness
These binoculars are good to quite dim conditions.
Eye relief
See my notes on the Victory T* FL 8 X 32 binocular for more on eye relief.
The 16.0mm of eye relief was satisfactory and it’s the most eye relief you can find in the Zeiss Victory FL line.
Ergonomics
The mid-range size offers a very nice compromise between larger 8X56 models and 8/10 X 32 models, fitting easily to hand, of a size that is easily grasped and held.
I would rather have the 8X42 or 10X42 models than the 8X32 even though they are larger and heavier; the larger size just feels right in my hands.
