42MP Sony A7R II
Zeiss ZF.2 28mm f/2 Distagon T*

Aperture Series: Four Aspens, Late Dusk (Sony A7R II)

Shot on the 42-megapixel Sony A7R II using the Novoflex lens adapter.

This series is about the visual impact, the rendering style of the Zeiss ZF.2 28mm f/2 Distagon. Also examined are sharpness and contrast, plus secondary color aberrations and lateral chromatic aberration.

See the same scene with the Zeiss Milvus 50mm f/1.4 Distagon.

As of this writing (Oct 2015), Zeiss has not made plans clear on the future of the ZF.2/ZE 28mm f/2 Distagon. It is unclear whether the 28/2 Distagon will be rebadged as a Milvus lens, or whether a new design will emerge (for example, with better correction for color errors). Its classic rendering style and 3D feel may appeal to those favoring such stylistic characteristics, and may want to acquire it before it is (possibly) too late.
