Caution on Latest Photoshop Update: Crashes Due to Heap Corruption, Drawing Bugs
Don’t update to Photoshop 22.3.0 unless you love downtime.
I've just done basic stuff and two crashes in two minutes. I can’t get simple tasks done!
If I can crash Photoshop twice within the first five minutes of usage, it is prima facie evidence that poor QA is being done.
What’s really bad is that debug modes for malloc() to check heap problems have been a technology available to developers for the past 25 years, but some Adobe code is corrupting the memory heap. This is unacceptable. It reflects badly on Adobe’s software development and Q/A process.
Lately Adobe has been doing updates almost once a week, which is both annoying and highly suspect—full QA cycles cannot possibly be run that quickly.
And the new “super resolution” mode has extremely ugly digital artifacting problems—I cannot believe it was shipped out the door. That on top of crosshatching pattern noise problems never fixed in Enhance Details makes me think that Adobe has gone the Apple route of having its users test is alpha-grade software. Also, the Enhance dialog itself still does not draw properly on a dual-display system (blank on the secondary screen, only 1/4 drawn on main screen and offset to top left), a bug I reported a year or so ago.

Moreover the “offset” bug appears in three different places: the Enhance Dialog, the ACR dialog, and when cycling between windows. It does not happen on single-display systems.
