Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G: Aperture Series at 12mm (Mosaic)
The about $1699 Sony 12-24mm f/4G is here. It’s quite modest in size for its 12-24mm range, and the tradeoff appears to be distortion.
There are at least three behaviors that concern me with the Sony 12-24mm, which I detail.
This aperture series evaluates image sharpness from f/4 through f/9, along with distortion and color shading and lens symmetry.
Sony 12-24mm f/4G Aperture Series @ 12mm: Mosaic
Includes images up to full resolution at f/4, f/6.3, f/9.
Ill have more series at other focal lengths soon.

I’ve never seen such a dramatic near/far variation. Problem is, ever at far, the distortion and color casting are severe, as your mosaic shot shows.
Presumably, the color casting could be fixed in software once the lens profile becomes available in LR, but I don’t see how you get around the distortion without affecting the image quality.
I am puzzled that Sony would put out a lens like this. I guess it’s OK for landscapes (as long as it’s not a well known landmark like the Half Dome), if the color casting is corrected. But it’s terrible for cityscapes, people, architecture, interiors, anything with geometric shapes, etc. Shots like the attached come out with weird bends that are hard to get rid of!
DIGLLOYD: it is not OK for landscapes really (flat horizons, distortion of geographic features), or groups of people, or architecture and so on.
