Leica 16/18/21mm f/4 Tri-Elmar M
B&H Photo has the Leica 16-18-21mm f/4 Tri-Elmar-M ASPH in stock.
On the way courtesy of B&H Photo is the Leica 16-18-21mm f/4 Tri-Elmar-M ASPH.
Also on the way is another Sony A7R loaner (see the A7/A7R DEAL).
I’ll be testing the 16-18-21mm f/2 Tri-Elmar-M on the Leica M Typ 240 and the Sony A7R with coverage going into Guide to Leica to extend the existing review coverage of the 16-18-21mm f/4 TEM.
Areas of interest include performance on the Leica M Typ 240, performance relative to the 18mm f/3.8 Super-Elmar-M ASPH and 21mm f/3.4 Super-Elmar-M ASPH, and of course 16mm performance.
The A7R is also of interest as to whether the ray angle to the sensor allows the lens quality to come through or whether the sensor cover glass will impede it to an unacceptable degree. I do expect that future sensors will be much more forgiving than the current crop, so all these M lenses (and Zeiss ZM) might well have a very bright future.
Before the arrival of the Leica M Typ 240 with Live View, ultra wide angle lenses were a royal pain to use, and the aptly named Frankenfinder monikor was applied to the Leica Universal Wide Angle Finder.
