Nikon D800 and Infrared
I’ve been waiting for the right DSLR to come along that will motivate me to convert it for pure digital infrared use.
That camera is the Nikon D800. I am confident that its ultra high quality sensor will produce the most stunning infrared images ever seen in a DSLR, by far.
The D800 is the best choice, since an infrared camera conversion will remove the optical low pass filter anyway, and void the warranty too. So no point in doing the more expensive D800E.
I have had many cameras converted by maxmax.com, and I am hoping to hear from them on the viability of converting the D800 for infrared use, though I am not looking to be the first to convert, just in case some learning is involved with the D800 body.
Images below were shot with the Canon 5D Mark II-IR (infrared converted camera). I expect the D800 to produce much superior images.
